As my business continues to explode, I am challenged with new ways to be more efficient. Not only does efficiency lead to greater profitability, it frees our time to give much deserved attention to our clients as well as to ourselves and our own lives.
When you feel like you are as efficient as you can be, when you are already as lean and mean as possible, there one finds the small changes that can make a big difference. Try these on for size:
- Outsource. What do you do that you don't have to (or like to, or need to)? Bookkeeping and basic admin tasks seem obvious. What else? What are skills you can train somebody on and have a personal business partner to serve your clients?
- Find complimentary skills. Do you despise detailed work? There are poeple out there that love it. Is Powerpoint your downfall? I guarantee you can find somebody who loves it.
- Build your own team. Even as a Solopreneur with zero employees, I have an incredible business team. We each bring unique talents to a project, have great mutual respect, and each have a strong focus on client service. If one member of the team wins, we all win. We learn from each other and grow together, even though we are independent business owners who are successful each on our own.
- Track your time. I hear a loud "sigh" when I suggest this to my clients. When your time is your inventory, you must know where it goes. Even if you don't bill hourly. Which clients are the most profitable? Which projects? How muhc time do you spend on tasks you can outsource (see #1). An easy web based system taht can be downloaded to Quickbooks - www.getmytime.com.
- Mange your energy. We aren't exhausted from doing many things, we are exhausted from doing the same things over and over. What drains you? Why does it drain you? How can you shift your energy around an issue to a vibration that supports you? Clear out the energetic clogs and see how easily the rest of your day/week/life will flow.
